It is able to answer specific questions about a location, such as whether it has a patio or questions about its menu.
Google announced Thursday that starting this week it will begin using its artificial intelligence (AI) , Gemini, to allow users in the United States to “talk” to Google Maps to request recommendations or ask questions about a destination.
Google Maps director Miriam Daniel explained to the press that the maps application will now be able to make recommendations for questions such as “things to do with friends at night” in a certain area and that it is also capable of answering specific questions about a place, such as whether it has a patio or questions about its menu.
Another new feature is that Gemini will summarize the reviews left by other users, similar to what Amazon does for some of its most popular products.
The tech titan also announced new features today to “take the stress out of driving ,” Daniel said, such as “showing parking close to” the arrival location and, once the user has parked, “they can get walking directions from their vehicle to the entrance.”
“Sometimes driving in unfamiliar areas with multiple lanes, forks and exits can be confusing. To help you stay ahead of these issues, our enhanced navigation will clearly show you lanes, crosswalks and traffic signs on the map. And since no one likes finding out they need to merge at the last minute, we’ll show you exactly which lane you should be in – just follow the blue line on the lane markers as you navigate,” the company notes in a statement.

Waze, a navigation app that can work with Google, said today that it is testing an update that allows users to “speak naturally to report incidents on the road.”
“Let’s say you’re driving on the highway and you spot a sudden traffic jam. All you need to do is tap the report button and speak naturally, as if you were chatting with a friend: ‘Looks like there are cars stuck up ahead! ’ With the help of Gemini’s capabilities, Waze will understand what you’re saying and quickly add a real-time report to the map.
