Uanataca Ecuador and Banco Guayaquil have joined forces to make it easier for citizens to make payments and obtain electronic signatures.
More than 1.7 million electronic signatures were issued in 2023 in Ecuador, which represented a 26% growth compared to 2022. And for this year, it is estimated that the figure will exceed 2 million signatures issued.
This is revealed by Estephanie Sánchez, regional manager of Uanacata, an Ecuadorian company endorsed by the Telecommunications Regulation and Control Agency (Arcotel) to issue electronic certificates.
“Beyond the subject, we are promoting a culture of digital transformation. We want companies to become aware of the importance of starting to automate processes, for example, in contract signings, payment roles and more.
If we see how much paper is printed and how many reams of paper are used, it is an operational and logistical saving. It also represents a contribution to the conservation of the planet,” explained the official before the signing of an agreement between Uanataca and Banco Guayaquil, held at a branch in Samborondón, on the night of October 17.
Digital identity: ‘Ecuador is one of the leaders in the issuance of electronic certificates in the region, in 2024 nearly 2 million will be issued’
Through this agreement, the digital identity solutions and electronic certificates issued by Uanataca are now available at all physical and digital Banco Guayaquil locations. This way, people can make purchases more quickly and with the security provided by both companies.
“Banco Guayaquil has shown us the way for Ecuadorians to have that access and financial inclusion just around the corner, two houses from where they live or five meters from where they work. This is possible thanks to the work that has been carried out through Banco del Barrio.
As Uanataca, we seek digital inclusion, which is a direct vehicle towards financial inclusion,” said Elías Barzallo, CEO of the company, which has been in the market for three years and has the support of the international group Namirial.
David Flores, representative of Banco Guayaquil, was excited to make electronic signature payment available through all the banking institution’s channels: “We have more than 20,000 Neighborhood Banks nationwide, one in each neighborhood of the country.
Banco Guayaquil’s application currently serves about 1.4 million users per month and there are about 110 offices nationwide. The purpose is to make life easier for Ecuadorians and together with you we will be able to do it as well.”

“Partnerships like these allow citizens to immediately access their electronic signature. The validity of the same ranges from one to four years and each year has its cost: it starts from $18 and increases as the years go by.
We also have a seven-day signature, in case you want to establish some kind of company or very specific entity,” added Sánchez, who highlights the facilities they give to the user: “The electronic signature is in the cloud, in the Uanataca app , which is 100% our development.
You enter your credentials there and you can sign from your phone anywhere in the world and you don’t need to have your computer.”
The event was presented by Marcelo Rojas, director in Guayaquil of the Ecuadorian Chamber of Innovation and Technology (Citec), who highlighted the work being done in the country in the technological area. Attendees enjoyed a day of networking and business.
