World Humanitarian Day 2020: Nigeria Red Cross Encourage More Persons to Embrace Volunteering

The Edo state branch of the Nigerian Red Cross Society as represented by the Branch Communication Coordinator Mr Oghenetejiri Ovwigho-Ugbede, was a guest on Independent radio 92.3FM Benin’s programme Impact discussing on the World Humanitarian Day 2020 and its theme REAL LIFE TIME HERO.

The programme as anchored by the manager programmes, Mr Sunny-Duke Okosun touched on the challenges faced by volunteers especially with the increased attacks of aid workers and in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Responding, the BCC highlighted that there is a general decrease in volunteering spirit especially in Nigeria due to the personal economic status of many persons. He said that this is all the more reason why aid workers who continue to provide assistance should be appreciated. The communications coordinator went further to stress the achievements of the Nigerian Red Cross Society in the face of the pandemic as well as appeal that aid workers are not attacked but rather supported since they are providing aid to vulnerable people. He said the the Red Cross encourages everyone to volunteer to serve humanity.
