Sunday Emila who is 21 year old woman, has been arrested for attempting to sell her 3 month old son in Ojoto at Idemili South Local Government Area of the state.
The suspect who is known as Sunday Emila, hails from Akwa Ibom State, allegedly planned to dispose the boy for 150,000 naira.
She blamed economic recession currently in Nigeria for her actions to sale her son for one hundred and fifty thousand naira.
Attesting to the incident, Haruna Mohammed who is Police spokesperson, said the suspect was nabbed on Tuesday evening by police operatives in the area
He said: “On Tuesday at about 6 pm, following intelligence report, police operatives attached to Ojoto Division in Anambra State arrested one Sunday Emila who claimed to be 21 year old from Akwa Ibom State with a 3 month old baby boy at Ire village Ojoto.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the woman was attempting to sell her three-month-old baby boy which the suspect claimed was due to hardship in Nigeria.”
Mohammed said the baby had been rescued in good health condition, adding that investigation was ongoing to unravel the circumstances surrounding the matter.
