Teenage Boy Commits Suicide in Benin City

A teenager simply identified as “Kelvin” has committed suicide in Benin City, three days after he went missing.

The body of the 19-year-old boy, was discovered in the early hours of Wednesday at Ogbe-Ibuya Community, Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State without leaving a suicide note.*

Residents and family members of the deceased who trooped out to catch a glimpse at his swollen body dangling from a tree near a bush path in the Community.

Speaking on the tragedy, Professor Stanley Orobator, the Community head (Odionwere) of Ogbe-Ibuya, described the incident as a sacrilege.

He said, suicide is alien and unreasonable while the brother-In-law of the decease, Mr. Festus Odiri, recalled the efforts before his body was discovered.

Odiri said: “We have been looking for the boy since on Sunday. He is my brother In-law.

“So, when I saw his body, I could not even recognise him because his body has change. Someone sent me the photograph of his dead body on Tuesday, which I thereafter sent to his brother who eventually identified him with his clothes.

A resident of Ogbe-Ibuya, Mr. Monday Edobor, said, “They said that he (Kelvin) left home on Sunday and have been searching for him before his body was discovered on a bush path after his photograph was published on Facebook”.

Also speaking, a sister to the deceased, Rita Bikorogha, alleged that “He (Kelvin) behave sometimes in a strange manner. Sometimes, he will swallow two sachets of indoseed. I have had cause to interrogate him, Kelvin what is wrong with you?

“In January, his custodian called him in my presence, Kelvin what is wring with you? Tell me, we can help to find solution to the problem.

“At times he behaves somehow. Sometimes, he sits alone. If people are in the sitting room, he sits at the back yard”, She said.

Commenting on the incident, the Spokesman of the Nigeria police, Edo State Command, SP. Chidi Nwabuzor, said police are aware of the tragedy which he blamed on depression.

“It is someone that led himself to a stage of depression. That is I am why it is good we guide our hearts so that we can be able to stay out of trouble.

“I want to encourage people to always monitor their Children”, he advised.
