The candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the September 19 Edo 2020 Governorship election, Mr. Osagie Ize-Iyamu, is appealing a High Court ruling nullifying his candidacy alongside the running mate, Gani Audu.
You may recall on we had reported the Edo State High Court sitting in Benin City on Wednesday, disqualified the candidates of the APC over alleged infractions contained in the documents submitted to INEC by the Deputy Governorship candidate, Gani Audu.
In a statement forwarded by the Edo APC Campaign Organization in reaction to the judgement, Ize-Iyamu described the ruling as “unfortunate and utterly wrong”.
“I have already instructed my Counsel to appeal against the judgment, as I am convinced that the Court of Appeal will dispassionately consider the facts presented before the Court and arrive at a just decision in accordance with the law,” he said.
He also urged his supporters in the state and beyond to remain calm and law-abiding, while expressing confidence that justice will prevail in the matter.
The tightly-contested Edo guber race remains subject of litigation over contended discrepancies in the academic credentials of the declared winner, Governor Godwin Obaseki.
