Health Workers in Nigeria Embark on Strike

Today September 7th 2020 Health workers in Nigeria embark on an indefinite strike nationwide, this was as a result the 15 days notice earlier issued to the government of Nigeria however, in the notice they registered thier displeasure over reluctance to fix erorrs and omission in the COVID-19 hazard allowance.

In a press briefing after ths National Executive meeting, the health workers reinstated that Festus Keyamu who is the Minister of state for Labour, lead the Federal Government negotiating team on all their issues especially salary adjustment.

There are indications Nigeria’s fragile health sector could just be crippled in few days time as a result of the industrial
action by resident doctors and allied health workers.

The Joint Health Sector Unions, JOHESU has fixed its strike to begin on Sunday, September 13 while the Association of resident doctors began her strike on Monday 7th September.

On allegations of anti-labour practices leveled against the Rivers State Government, the health workers called on Governor Nyesom Wike to prove his critics wrong by meeting the demands of the State workers.
