The Nigerian Red Cross Society, Edo State Branch with support from the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies through the National Headquarters has conducted a 2-day Risk Communication and Community Engagement training for 20 Community based volunteers across the State. These volunteers are expected to apply their improved skill in a door-to-door exercise over the next few months, enlightening the public on COVID-19 and addressing myths and rumours in the hope of reducing the spread of the disease.

The 2-day event which was declared open by the Branch Chairman Mr. Festus Alenkhe was held at the Branch office in Benin City from 24th-25th August, and featured a representative from the National Headquarters and member of Health Action Team Mr Abraham Kayode. Other facilitators where the Edo State Epidemiologist Dr Uwa Okhuarobo, State DSNO Ms. Evarista Aigbangbee, State Health Educator Mrs Felicia Omokaro, as well as the Branch Secretary Mr. Wilson Ekhomogiazin, Branch Health Coordinator Mrs Efe-Iyamu Iyabo and the Branch Communication Coordinator Mr Oghenetejiri Ovwigho-Ugbede.

The headquarter rep and BCC also featured on a radio program to educate the public on COVID-19 especially in view of the forthcoming Edo Gubernatorial election. The Branch Secretary on the other hand was featured on a popular radio station in Nigeria, still on the same subject.
