Rapper Kidd Wes sued Childish Gambino for allegedly lifting the Grammy-winning hit “This Is A merica” from him
According to US federal court documents Emelike Nwosuocha says the 2018 rap smash from Donald Glover, whose alter ego is Childish Gambino, is “glaringly similar” to a song he released two years prior on the Soundcloud platform.
The complaint filed in New York cites “nearly-identical unique rhythmic, lyrical, and thematic compositional and performance content contained in the chorus — or ‘hook’ — sections that are the centerpieces of both songs.”
“This Is America” in 2019 become the first rap song to win the prestigious Grammys honoring best song and best record.
The song is packed with social commentary and juxtaposes an up-tempo rhythm, layered with church hymns and Afrobeats, with a heavier, more foreboding bassline.
Nwosuocha says the flow of his song and Gambino’s are “unmistakably substantially similar, if not practically identical.”
He cited a musicologist he employed to compare the two tracks, who said “similarities in melodic contour, rhythmic triplet flow in each performance, and the lines ‘Made in America’ and ‘This is America’” are “likely not coincidences.”
Nwosuocha is seeking a trial and damages, including for lost profits and opportunities.
Among the defendants named in the complaint are Gambino’s record label RCA, along with Roc Nation and the rapper Young Thug, who is credited as a writer and performing backing vocals.
Gambino has not publicly responded to the allegations.
In 2018 a blogger wrote of a similarity between “This Is America” and a track from rapper Jase Harley called “American Pharaoh.”
Harley declined to pursue legal action, as Gambino’s manager rejected the plagiarism allegations, saying computer files dating back to 2015 proved Gambino’s song was original.

Take Care of your Two Kids – Uzoamaka to Estranged Nedu
Take care of your two children, Uzoamaka urges estranged husband Nedu
Why I came out was because I have been paying the house rent and I have been taking loans for four years after he kicked us out of the house where we were staying.
Uzoamaka Ohiri, former wife of radio personality, Chinedu Ani, popularly known as Nedu, has called on him to take care of the two children they had together.
She made this call on PUNCH Live as she discussed issues surrounding her separation from the comedian.
Nedu had, in a weekend post on Instagram, claimed that he wasn’t the father of her first child, citing the result of a DNA test.
Uzoamaka, in her PUNCH Live interview, had also explained the circumstances surrounding the birth of the male child, stating, however, that throughout their marriage, she was faithful to Nedu.
She stated that since the comedian walked out of their marriage four years ago, she had been solely responsible for the care of the two children which, she noted, Nedu had fathered.
According to Uzoamaka, Nedu barely knows the last child, a female, because they separated not long after the child was born.
“He doesn’t know the last one. He walked out of her life when she was born; so, she doesn’t know her,” Uzoamaka said.
She lamented that though Nedu is their father, he is not being supportive towards their welfare.
Uzoamaka claimed that she had been battling to pay the house rent and that, despite her pleas, Nedu hadn’t been taking care of the children’s expenses.
Nedu pays the children’s school fees, however, according to her; noting that, that was why she brought the issue out on social media over the weekend.
“He pays school fees. Why I came out was because I have been paying the house rent and I have been taking loans for four years after he kicked us out of the house where we were staying.
“This is four years now. I have been paying house rent and I have been asking him to support. Four years now. That’s why I came out,” Uzoamaka explained.

“I want her to open up a little more so I can understand how she feels.”
