Investing in education and technology is essential to building a more equitable and prosperous future for all Ecuadorians.
The Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) landscape in Ecuador in 2024 shows significant progress, but also persistent challenges.
With 66% of households having access to the internet, the country has improved compared to previous years, although the gap between urban and rural areas remains significant. In urban areas, internet access reaches 73.6%, while in rural areas it drops to 48.1%. This difference highlights the need for policies that ensure equitable access to technology in the country.
Plan for people with unfinished schooling
66.8% of Ecuadorian households lack computers or similar devices. This figure indicates that there is still a long way to go to ensure that all citizens can benefit from ICTs.
77.2% of the population uses the Internet, however, this percentage varies significantly between urban and rural areas.
Furthermore, 57.7% of the population owns a smartphone. This is encouraging, as smartphones are key tools for accessing digital information and services.
Figures match perceptions
Digital illiteracy affects 5.4% of the population, demonstrating the urgent need for educational programs that teach basic skills and empower people to close this gap and ensure that everyone can take advantage of the opportunities offered by ICTs.
Information and Communication Technologies in Ecuador have advanced, but significant challenges remain. Inequality in access to education and digital illiteracy are barriers that must be overcome to achieve inclusive development.
Investing in education and technology is essential to building a more equitable and prosperous future for all Ecuadorians.
